Gojushiho

I spent last year studying the kata Gojushiho. The version we have in our curriculum is the Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu version with the high leg raise. One of the methods I used to study Gojushiho was to take a look at other version to compare and contrast. It was very useful in my study. I have put together a video that presents several variations of Gojushiho:

1) Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu

2) Matsumura Seito (Matsumura Orthodox)

3 and 4) Shotokan's Gojushiho Sho and Dai.

5) Seirenkai

6) Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu

7) Shito-Ryu

8) Busho No Te

9) Jyoshinmon

10) Gojushiho Ni

11) Tang Soo Do - O Sip Sa Bo

12) Kiyan Gojushiho

13-19) weapons variations - I put the kata to the weapons I use. I attempted to stay close to the intent of the kata.

I present them not to show competency, because other than the first, I do not work on them. I present them only as comparison.

Peace,

Mike

A very interesting concept and you can tell loads of work has gone into it. I love comparing and contrasting different versions of kata and I really like how far you’ve taken this. Thanks for sharing!

All the best,

Iain
