Hi all
We have been working on Seipai as a step by step analysis, my students asked me to record it. Footage below shows techniques (one of many possible applications) on none resisting partner so the students can see what I'm doing.
Kind regards
Les
Lots of really good stuff in there Les! Great video! I’ll share that with the folks on Facebook, etc.
All the best,
Iain
Thanks Iain, feel free to use it
Fantastic video, as my mainstay kata it is always good to see someone elses views on it. Whilst I note many similarities I like some of your aternative applications particularly in the opening sequence.
I noted that during the "dumping" sequence, of which you showed some differing applications, you don't appear to use the sweeping leg, was this purely down to contraints of the environment, ie. hard floor etc. The only time we have practiced this "full tilt" we have done it onto large crash mats.
I like your messy applications for the end part of the kata, reminded me of a video I saw of Taira Sensei doing Sepai.
Great stuff and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Chikara Andrew, I have to be gentle my friend might not appreciate high impact landing on the head. The full sweep would result in uncontrollable landing on neck/head.
I understand, even when using large crash mats for them to land on there is still a high degree of control from the upper hand to control the rotation/speed of descent of the uke, getting them to land on their side as opposed to head.
I still consider that to be one of the most brutal application within any of the kata I practice.
Love love love it! Some really interesting takes on this kata. It's my favourite kata - the one I know best. I haven't seen some of these interpretations. I shall have a play around with them myself. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you Stevenson,
glad you liked it.
