Clinch Fighting Application for Opening Moves of Pinan Shodan/Heian Nidan

Hello,

Physical confrontations often end up in the clinch, for a variety of reasons. Generally, the enemy tries to control the victim with the clinch, or the defender may be successfully striking the enemy, who then clinches up to stop the striking. Whatever the reason may be, the clinch is not a good place to be in a self-defense situation: you cannot escape, the enemy has a better chance of controlling and harming you, and his accomplices can more easily attack you. In a self-defense situation, you want to get out of the clinch as quickly as possible. The opening moves of Pinan Shodan/Heian Nidan provide a possible strategy for escaping the clinch.

David, I love how you derive a whole set of methods from one single sequence of movements for your self-defense class, as you show in your video series. Very resourceful! Because your students only need the same movements all the time they can focus on the different applications and strategies that you teach. Awesome!

All the best,

Marc

Marc,

Thanks so much! I think they are becoming a bit overwhelmed...LOL...but after much practice and repetition, they are starting to get that very idea--oh, right...I can deal with a variety of combative issues using these few basic moves. Thanks again.

Best,

David
