Seminars

OK, so I have been toying with the idea of booking up to attend one of Iains seminars (I think Maldon is the closest to me in the South East).  It's something I have wanted to do for some time but have always put it off as I never know what to expect.

Can those of you who have attended Iains seminars previously tell me what to expect?  I am a shodan in Shotokan but currently studying Uechi Ryu as I wanted to experiment with different "styles".

Many thanks

Mark

Expect fun, knowledge, insight, comradery, anecdotes and practical and functional training. Expect Iain to mess up his control just once, usually in the latter part of the day, and give his poor uke a whack, It's becoming a hallmark of the seminars.

You'll be very pleased you went. And Maldon is Lee Mullan, right? Great guy. You'll be well welcomed.

Right, I need to get looking at my shifts when I get to work later and make sure I have the day off.

I concure with Tau on what to expect. Don't hestitate and get to one! Especially as we've all just missed a year or more of proper training. Get 'em while you can!

Personally I'd try to find a good training partner to go with as being able to work with someone you know and can trust can make the seminar more productive. That's not just Iain's seminars but any seminar really.

And do more than one seminar if you can. I found that after the first 1 or 2, things started to come together and you start to get the bigger picture of Iain's method/approach.

Not sure it’s appropriate for me to comment, but as the only human alive who has been at all of my seminars, I think I have a unique perspective :-) My aim is always that people leave with new knowledge and that they have a fun time while they are there. Time is precious and life is hard. I therefore want to be sure that people think it was time well spent and a welcome break from the pressures of life. The feedback would suggest I’m pretty successful in meeting those aims. It’s always a friendly atmosphere and time with people who share our passion. It will also be great to meet you in person! Always nice to put faces to names.

All the best,

Iain
