Course 18/11/12: Wadoryu Kata Bunkai and Shared Principles of Wadoryu & Shinkendo

We hope to have a 'workbook' covering all the pinan katas from a Wado perspective produced in part from photographs taken on the course and produced within about a month.

Would you be looking at the Gumite Gata, the Ohyo Kata etc that is exclusive to Wado Ryu. These are what I would love to look into as an Ashihara KarateKa. I only practice Bassai, Niseishi and Naihanchi Kata.

For everyone else I am psoitive these workbooks etc will be worth their weight in Gold

It would definitely be fair to say that the kumite gata, Ohyo gumite and the Kihon gumite influence the applications we have assigned to kata, in particular in relation to kuzushi (balance-breaking). However, our Wado is generally very 'close-range' anyway, and my Judo and Jujitsu experience has led us also down the path of more throws and locks, which are complementary additional skill-sets to the normal karate syllabus training.

Actually, re-reading your post - we have two sets of complete applications to Naihanchi; one is all throwing techniques, practiced first to the right and then to the left, while the other is all locking techniques. I think I may have these on DVD somewhere......

Anyone thinking about going to the course, dont think just go Jims a great guy and very experienced martial artist.
