After the three manji ukes in Gankaku we see a peculiar movement where we drop to one knee and perform what is often called an "X block" or juji uke. In this video I explore how to use this position as a gift wrap choke. Credits, The first time I saw the gift wrap choke was from Geoff MacDonald at a KU seminar. I have also studied variations of the technique from a couple of BJJ instructors. Jesse Allen, a BJJ black belt (no relation), showed me a transition from the Americana to back control. I modified the grip to transition to the gift wrap choke. I have some other ideas brewing for this move to stay tuned to the Applied Shotokan YT channel.
