Mixed age classes

No - just teachers/sempais/senseis. Never heard of CRB checks for other students. That would be a bit wierd.

I would agree with that. I would recommend contacting you NGB who will confirm, if its them that insist you do it either conform with their rules or change NGB

You'll probably need an enhanced CRB check.

a person really only needs a crb check if they are alone or in charge of a group.

just being in the same class as minors doesnt warrant a check (otherwise where would it end - crb checks to shop in tescos at the same time kids are in there!)

A CRB form is exactly what it says - a check to see if the holder has any criminal convictions by the Criminal Records Bureau.

On a tangent to the topic, should having a criminal record prohibit you from teaching Martial Arts? I know of at least four people that teach Martial Arts that have criminal records, three of those for violent crimes.

Although I have a CRB Cert, don't see the need in them as its only the UK that warrants the need for these Documents which doesn't stop the bad ones getting through anyway (as with a few high profile Instructors etc that have been in the media over ther last couple of years). Its a deterant only.

I know the minors are safe in my dojo regardless of whether I have a cuirrent CRB or NOT.

Due to the nature of the CRB certificate it can easily be recreated. I think a Photo ID badge similar to the SIA badge would be better.

Personally I think registration with the local Police station who can and should do spot checks etc at any time would be a better way forward.

That isn't strictly true.  The enhanced CRB cannot stop those who have not yet gained a conviction or caution from slipping through the net - only parental, student and other instructor awareness and good practice in child protection and safeguarding can do that.  What the enhanced CRB does do is provide a mechanism by which those who have had convictions for offences that make them unsuitable for working with vulnerable adults and children can be identified and prevented from doing so. 

A CRB form can't be easily recreated.  It is an unusual sized piece of paper with a complicated ink pattern on both sides. It requires a good setup to reproduce.  In addition to that, anyone can contact the issuing agency to check its validity if they have concerns.

There's a new way coming in "Disclosure & Barring Service (formally CRB) which should make it safer for vunerable Students etc.

Anything can be reproduced, if money can be counterfeit so can CRB's but yes anyone in their correct mind would chedck with the Agency
