I found from youtube this Finnish military close combat training video from 50s. Starts at 02:00 first there is stances, then falling, kicks, strikes, grappling and throws etc. What do you think? At least I found some similarities to karate and judo. Which is quite understandable, because humans are similar all over the world and same techniques works. I don't know has those guys heard of karate and judo, but if same techniques are "invented" and taught independently two opposite side of earth, then perhaps those techniques are useable. (Sorry, about the language, I am not going to translate it).
It’s a great video! When I started watching I thought it looked familiar … and one quick google later, it seems we discussed it 6 years ago :-) Well worth dissecting again, but here is the link so people can see the observations made then: https://iainabernethy.co.uk/content/old-finnish-military-combat-methods-video
All the best,

Sorry. Didn't notice that it was already here. I thought this is a good example how pointless it is to argue what are the origins of some certain fighting style or technique and who invented what and when.
No apology needed! There is not much that has not been discussed before, but every new discussion reveals new insights. It’s important to revisit things.
Absolutely! There’s also some very cool takedowns in the video :-)
All the best,
Iain
