Ryukyu Martial Arts Friendship Gasshuku 2, Scottsdale, AZ, USA

Hello, everyone!

In October of 2015, I organized the first Ryukyu Martial Arts Friendship Gasshuku, to bring instructors from a variety of Okinawan martial arts together under one roof to teach and explore the fighting systems of the former Ryukyu Kingdom. That event went very well, and we had martial artists from Shorin-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, Isshin-Ryu, Shito-Ryu, Shotokan, Taekwondo, and more, all come together to learn from each other, and delve deeper into the roots of karate. I'm thrilled to be hosting this event for the second time, at our dojo in Scottsdale Arizona! The event will start at 5pm on Friday, March 17th, and we will have sessions that night, as well as throughout the next two days (Saturday and Sunday).

The event refers to "Ryukyu martial arts" and "Okinawan martial arts," because I specifically want people to see the old-style approaches to karate that can be found in those systems, but the event is open to participants of any style! We will be covering a wide range of topics from traditional supplemental training methods (hojo undo), to foundational drills to develop skills like muchimi, to kata you may not have even seen before, to bunkai, and more! If you can make it out to Arizona in mid-March, I highly recommend you take advantage of this opportunity--it's incredibly rare to get such a variety of highly-skilled instructors in one place, at one time, to teach their subjects. For a list of instructors, and more information on the event, you can check out the Facebook Event Page that I have set up for it:

If you check out the "Discussions" tab on that Event Page, you'll also find a number of videos that we have posted to give you a bit of an introduction to some of the instructors who will be teaching. I hope to see some of you there!
