Tai Sabaki And Kuzushi

Hi All,

On the 1st of December I had a pleasure to teach alongside great teachers at the Karate for Mental Health Seminar. My subject was body management and off balancing. Below you can find short extract from one of the techniques, I hope that you will enjoy it.

I would like to say big thank you to Iain, John Johnston and Matt Jardine for making this event possible and great success!

Kind regards

Les

That was a fantastic session Les. I really liked what you did, and how you taught it too. There were a few times I was left simultaneously impressed and baffled by your initial skilful demonstrations. The thigh positioning in particular. I could see the balance was broken, but I’d missed how! When you slowly broke it down it became obvious … a little like a magician showing you how the trick is done. When you know the details it’s obvious and simple, but when you don’t it seems magical. I don’t think I was alone in that judging by the smiling faces from the participants. They definitely enjoyed working your material and they hand much success with it due to the way you broke it down.

Thank you Iain,

I was worried that my explanation might be chaotic.

Kind regards

Not at all! As an observer, I could see the participants get what you were explaining and effectively enact it. The effectiveness and style of delivery were spot on; as was the content. I really enjoyed it!

All the best,

Iain

PS Still can’t do that nose and ear thing ;-)

Good stuff, and something I work with in Naihanchi quite a bit. Thanks for sharing!

Iain, it's quite funny, as my elderly students told me on last session, that seeing so many black belts being unable to do that exercise made them feel so much better. " It's not just us old falks struggling with this..." So on their behalf thank you :)

Kind regards

Les

Les,

Thanks for sharing this video, I always enjoy your teaching and approach.  I could see how these core principles could be used in many different ways.  Much appreciated.

Great video.

I always enjoy working with kizushi and related concepts ... so much better than merely "I can smash you harder than you can smash me!"
