Thanks! This is a great little video. I love watching the old footage. I enjoyed seeing a lot of the techniques I practice regularily in context as to where they started off. The defence throw against a punch (or one of them in that sequence) reminds me a lot of one of the Karate throws from Funakoshi's early books.

As BJJ stemed off from Judo, it is interesting to see how much flavour from Judo remains in the art. When you compare it to Karate (shotokan), it is easier to see the influences that old school kind of Judo had on the development of the karate practice as well. Using the motions in the older footage, you can really see where the kata's are using which movements- as both the kata and applications have not been altered yet. ( I kinda lumped all the old school footage togerher here). Watching the ol footage, looking for anything that is the same between different arts, you can probably guess they shared a common root or influence. Fun to watch.

Plus the 98lb weakling on the beach is priceless! lol.
