WTF poomse (taegeuk and up) association to...

Would love to add to this thread. Please would you elaborate as to what comparisons etc

Wich are the most similar to the other...

The reason why I'm asking is because I've learned only Sport TKD, for some reasons where I come from poomse where not taught. In the last few years I've also been practicing Kickboxing and BJJ.  But I am familiar with Katas having practiced some Shotokan and a couple of yrs of Kyokushin. Now I will start teaching (again) soon but want to use poomse or katas (my mind is not set yet and I may even not use them at all) in a concrete way, a bit as Abernethy described he does.

I want to buy some of his material and was thinking maybe a knowledgable poomse/katas practitioner could save me a lot of research time comparing Katas to poomses...

If it was Mu Duk Kwan TKD a majority of the Poomsae can be found in Japanese Karate, the only thing is a majority of the forms in WTF were formulated by the Founders and Grandmasters. What you got to look at is Wikipedia to at all the Kata and see if there is a korean equivalent. I know in Tang Soo Do 95% of the Hyungs are korean versions of Japanese Kata.
I have adapted Koryo Poomsae into my syllabus as I can see an excellent application to the form.
Note there are no rules as to applying application to the forms as long as its realistic and not jumpy spinny "Bloodsport" style in technique!!!

I think you'll probably find Iain's Pinan material most useful, at least at first.
