John Johnston 7th Dan and Iain Abernethy 6th Dan Joint Applied Karate Seminar!
John Johnston 7th Dan (BCKA and WCA) & Iain Abernethy 6th Dan (BCKA and WCA) will be teaching a joint applied karate seminar on the 4th May 2013! The seminar will run from 12pm to 5pm and take place at Dev Barrett’s Dojo, 87 Brays Lane, Coventry, CV2 4DS. The cost will be just £35.00 per person and if 5 people book the 5th person will be free of charge . Demand is high and all places need to be pre-booked. Cheques should made payable to “Elaine Johnston” and to be sent to Elaine Johnston, 34 Dryden Street, Derby DE23 8AT. The following themes will be covered:
1st Session: Use of blocking techniques (Uke Waza) for destabilising, disruption and striking (John Johnston – 1 hour)
2nd Session: Karate gripping drills. In this session we will cover core grappling and gripping skills which are needed to strike and apply the techniques of kata at close range (Iain Abernethy - 1 hour)
3nd Session: Bunkai from Wankan (A very short Shotokan Kata) it is not necessary to know the Kata but the Bunkai when adapted can be very effective for a self defence scenario (John Johnston – 1 hour)
4th Session: Karate throws. In this session we will look at some of the key karate throws and takedowns found within kata and the writings of the past masters (Iain Abernethy - 1 hour)
