Hi All, As you can see, the new website is live! To get the best out of the site, you should join up as that will enable you to post on the forum and message each other individually and in groups! NOTE: Your existing user name and password for the old forum will not work and you need to set up a new account. Helen and I will be sure to approve all new accounts as quickly as we can, but please be patient as we will have thousands of them to do over the next few days! If you applied for membership while the site was being built, and you have not had an email confirming activation, you will need to reapply. The site has much better media functions and we will be uploading some exclusive bunkai and pad-work drills early next week (the first of many!). A new podcast will also be up there very soon. In the meantime, please explore the new site! Please email your thoughts to email@example.com All the best, Iain Extra Information Domain Name: As some of you found, the new site was being built at iainabernethy.co.uk. When we tried to move it across to the main .com address, we found the existing servers were not powerful enough to deal with the new site! The easy solution was to let the site run at iainabernethy.co.uk and forward the traffic from iainabernethy.com. The more observant among you will notice that :-) The shopping side of the site remains as a sub-domain at iainabernethy.com to help balance out the large amount of data downloaded from each side. Old Forum: The old forum will be back! In seven years we built up a huge about of data and it will take a while to upload all that to the new servers. It will be back though and links will be added from the site as soon as it is back live. The new forum is functioning now and it is the intention to fully archive the old one in due course. However, no data will be lost and the old one will still be there for search purposes. So please watch this space for the return of the old forum. The Blog: Most of the information has been transferred to the new site and nothing new will be added to the blog. All new videos and podcasts will be added to the new site in order to take advantage of the better media functions (we can bring you better quality, longer videos and we have no size limits on the podcasts). The old blog will remain online though and can still be accessed. Jissen Magazine and Free E-Books: These will be re-added to the website very soon. In the meantime all back issues of Jissen can be found here: www.jissenmag.com Coming Soon: The new website will enable us to bring you loads of exciting new material and we’ll be starting with that next week! Watch the newsletter and twitter feed (www.twitter.com/iainabernethy) as soon as these things have been added.
Photo 1: Kris Wilder quietly blends into the background of the group photo at the end of Seattle day 2. Photo 2: Kris Wilder, Marc “Animal” MacYoung, Rory Miller, Nicholas Yang, Al Peasland, Iain Abernethy. Not sure why all the American’s stood up and the Brits sat down?!? Photo 3: Iain and Al pull a “serious face” to avoid looking overly enthusiastic when handling guns and end up looking rather odd! Seconds earlier Rory had commented that Brits with guns were like teenage boys with a copy of playboy! Note how the guns are unloaded, open and our fingers are off the triggers. My mum saw this photo on Al’s Facebook page and had words with me about it! ;-) Photo 4: Rory kindly takes Iain through some of the points associated with clearing a room as part of a team. The practise continued and lead to us being one door away from a church congregation! Photo 5: Iain, Kris and Al at the graves of Bruce and Brandon Lee. Bruce Lee’s films were one of the things that inspired me as a young martial artist and hence it was really nice to pay a visit. Photo 6: Nick, Marc, Rory, Al, Iain & Kris. Not sure what Kris was pointing at, but I was having a “Marc MacYoung is wearing a T-Shirt with my name on it moment!” I’ve been a big fan of Marc’s no nonsense approach to self-defence for decades and it was great to finally meet him
Welcome to the latest Extreme Impact drill! This drill is from the forthcoming “Extreme Impact Unit 8: Confusion Drills” (to be released in Sept 2010). Confusion drills are ones that mess with the mind and body by never allowing you to “find your groove”. The drills involve variations in tempo, intensity and impact to keep you constantly outside of your comfort zone! I hope you “enjoy” making use of this drill in your training and teaching. We will be back with more samples and exclusive drills soon! All the best, Iain
Hi All, We’ve just added another totally new Extreme Impact video to the You-Tube channel! This time it is the turn of Hooks and Uppercuts! The clip below is a sample from Extreme Impact 7 (coming out in Sept 2010) which includes a whole host of drills for hooks and uppercuts that develop all the associated attributes needed to deliver those techniques with knockout power! This clip includes a brief piece of technical instruction from Steve on the mechanics of arching punches and a simple drill designed to develop explosiveness, power, footwork and aerobic fitness. We hope you enjoy this sample of Unit 7 and that you’ll check out all the drills in the unit when it is released in a few weeks time! Steve and I will be back with more sample drills soon. I hope you enjoy making use of these drills in your training and teaching. All the best, Iain

Hi All, A few weeks ago I added some videos to this website about the Crossing the Pod seminars in the UK and the USA in August! Well, I now have a new video from Nicholas Yang! The first weekend of seminars will take place in Seattle in the USA (14th and 15th of August) and the second weekend will take place a week later in Coventry in the UK (21st and 22nd of August). Kris Wilder, Marc “Animal” MacYoung, Alan Peasland, Nicholas Yang and I will be the instructors with all five of us teaching both days! The main website for these events is www.crossingthepond.webs.com and you can book your place online (click HERE for USA bookings / click HERE for UK bookings). As I have said before, these events present an amazing mix of the “traditional” and the “reality based” (not that I see a difference between the two terms) and I’m sure serious martial artists in Europe and USA will be very keen to be part of this history making event! So far the UK one has bookings from as far a field as Norway and Spain! This is going to be a very exciting international event. Any how, that’s enough from me, please checkout Nicholas's new video below! All the best, Iain
Hi All, Here’s a quick clip from the filming of the first set of Extreme Impact Downloads. Those who have seen the downloads will know that Steve and I take turns when demonstrating and to explain each of the drills … well on this one I forgot it was my turn! Watch carefully for the shifty sideways glances from Steve and me! Thankfully, the editing removes all such cock-ups from the final program! Enjoy! All the best, Iain
