Concept 2 group

Hi. I have been a member of an online rowing group within Concept 2 for many years and would like to start my own team. Concept 2 are one of the world's leading erg / rowing machine makers and you will most probably find that most Olympic rowing teams train on this particular units. I have been rowing on one of these machines for many years and have completed over 14 million metres. Within Concept 2 there are many challenges nearly every month whether it is a half marathon, rowing for your valentine, military rows and we have just had the Rowlympics. There are also world records, local competition in your own countries. Since Iain has been posting some of his rowing Tabata gains, I wanted to ask if anybody wanted to join up to a Practical Karate Rowing Team. This would be a virtual team and we would compete as a team during team events and as individuals throughout the year. It's an incentive to get fit and endurance would increase which then helps our Karate training. If you either row at a gym or you own one of these units and wanted to know more then please get in touch. You can enter details online or with a log card etc. The rowing year is from may to may. Certificates and prizes from your local Concept 2 dealer are available when milestones are reached. Craig

One of my favourite bits of kit. A great and efficient workout where it is easy to measure progress and set goals. It’s also a good CV workout that can be done no matter what the Cumbrian weather is doing :-) My own schedule would mean I could not commit to anything regular; and besides my rowing is far from competitive level. But there may be other among our ranks who fancy it?

Maybe one to share in the newsletter Craig?

All the best,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I though I would get notified of a response by the page. Anyway, yeah that would be cool if you could add it in your newsletter. As for regular rowing, so long as people logged their meters then any small amount is good. I mean, I'm not competitive either but as a team of more than 1 we can achieve great distances!! As a matter of fact when I was getting to grade to 1st Dan with the club I am with right now - the black belt gradings go over 2 days - it was the rowing that gave me the fitness and the mental edge to keep pushing through. As you would know, performing a 5km row under 20 mins is quite hard and I have completed half marathons in around 90 - 95 mins. That pushes your mental side to another place. Be good to see other like minded karate ka join up and just row :-)

Thanks Iain.

Also for those who are like Dash3 - who might have never used one -  below is a link and on the left side of the page, there are helpful videos etc on how to use this particular rower. There is a Damper setting. Depending if you want to Row as if you are in the water or you want a very hard workout. Personally mine is set between 2-5.

Many challenges exist throught the year, certificates, and you do get free t-shirts, sweaters etc, if you hit certian targets.

Well, that was alright! About three minutes in, the muscles over my elbows started to cramp, but that passed quickly. Definitely be keeping that in the mix of my lunch hour cardio!
