The Parry-Pass Method

Hello, everyone! It's been a while since I posted an article, but I've been sitting on this one for quite some time, and only just now decided to post it :P. The parry-pass method is present in many martial arts, and named many different things, but it's a very useful concept.

Nice article Noah! I like the use of the moving images too … isn’t modern technology wonderful!

All the best,

Iain

Thanks, Iain! I do have a tendency to use animated GIFs pretty often, because for a lot of the things I want to showcase, it doesn't make sense to post a full video of it in conjunction with the text--just a few seconds of the video is all I need, and the GIF accomplishes that. Plus, GIFs play in pretty much all web browsers, even on mobile devices, so I don't have to worry about compatibility issues, like if I uploaded a Windows-only format video, or something to that effect. In any case, I hope some people find the concepts I bring up useful, although I'm sure they are familiar to most here in your forum. I know you utilize the parry-pass in a number of your drills.

Good article Noah, thanks.

Could you tell us what kind of software tool you use to create the animated GIFs from videos?

Thanks, Marc! It's literally called "Free Video to GIF Converter," and can be downloaded from video-gif-converter.com

That website seems to have passed its best-before date. However, I've found a solution under Linux using ffmpeg and imagemagick, and there seem to be plenty of Windows solutions out there. Thanks anyway.

Keep on writing those articles and making Waza Wednesday videos. I do like them a lot.

All the best,

Marc
