Pinan Sandan - Nukite

Hi all

As few people have asked me to record more training and execution of our fifth stage of technique development, we have recorded oyo bunkai to nukite with the turn from Pinan Sandan(kyokushin version) hope you will enjoy it. In the first part Martin is unaware of what I will do and can counter attack and throw.

Kind regards

Les

Thanks for sharing, Les! We actually do the same throw as part of Gojushiho/Useishi, but I can definitely see how it fits Pinan Sandan

Thanks for posting Les! It’s one of the fundamentals of the kata process that people fail to grasp: “The map is not the territory” :-)

Kata tells us what to do in combat, but it is not combat. Kata is the map; not the territory. Most of the misunderstandings of kata are based on a failure to grasp the relationship between kata and live practise.

Thanks once again for sharing.

All the best,

Iain

Thank you all,

Wastlander do you have a clip of Useishi/Gojushiho application? As I'm juststarting to look in to this kata, if not maybe that would be good subject for Waza Wednesday?

Kind regards

Great video, I never thought of using that move for this purpose. I definitely liked the 5th stage part of the video, just an idea for next time maybe you could have the attacker throwing knees from the clinch as well for added realism.

Chris, Martin could use knees or punches, but it is very difficult to use knees when you have grappler trying to dominate, hold arms and headbutt in the same time. Whenever you lift the leg you lose balance, your suggestion give me idea for next video about pummelling in clinch, thank you.

Kind regards

I definitely agree that it can be difficult, my reasoning for mentioning it was that it is quite a natural thing for the other guy to attempt (I've even seen untrained people try to do it), and that having him throw them (whether he succeeds or fails) could be a useful addition to the clinch sparring, as it could add an extra thing to learn from. I look forward to your video on pummelling, and I'm glad my suggestion was useful.
