Pinan Sandan - final sequence

On the last session we had been working on a technique from Pinan/Heian sandan final sequence ,

which includes a turn with a elbow followed stepping to the side with second elbow. Footage below.

Kind regards

Les

Oh, I like that one Les! Like your student, I liked the flow, but missed the connection on the first pass … on the second showing I was, “Yep, that is an exact match for the Kyokushin version!” Lovely used of the “sideways skip”! I believe some TSD folk do the kata the same way, so it’s a nice one for them too. Very good!

All the best,

Iain

Thanks Iain,

Yeah I hear that comment a lot, I don't know why. Maybe it's the way I show it or maybe I'm just too fast  :).

I don’t normally find that with your videos … I think that in this case it’s because it is a long flow with a lot going on, so I got distracted by the details. One the second view, I “zoomed out” and got it!

Very impressed with this one Les. That’s “side skip” is rarely attributed a meaningful function – even by bunkai based practitioners – but the double knee is a nice one, and the fact that fits beautifully into a wider flow is all the more impressive. As I say, I like all your stuff … but this one is particularly delightful :-)

Al the best,

Iain

I really like the neck grip and spin you did Les! - I taught something similar at my last seminar with John Titchen (its covered in the first 10 seconds of the highlight video if you want to see my variation ;) ) - never "found" it in H/P Sandan though until I saw your video!

Leigh your clip reminded me about that variation, so thank you for your clip. Looking forward to catching up soon my friend. Kind regards

This is the most satisfying explanation for the chicken wing I've ever seen. Thanks, Les.
