A fascinating and somewhat terrifying interview with UFC fighter Anthony Smith recounting a recent home invasion that he experienced. A must watch.

We got into the subject a bit in the other thread on this, really fascinating. It speaks to the importance of understanding and working with fear, and the general feeling of being a victim in a self defense situation. It appears that this feeling was more of a shock to him than the incident itself, in some ways. I've never experienced this situation, but I had someone rob the dowstairs of my house while my wife and I were sleeping upstairs years ago, even that feeling of violation was intense, much less something like this. I've also experienced get randomly jumped, and those involved a similar feeling of helplessness and confusion, though they were nothing nearly this serious.
Sounds like someone could have easily died here, glad it didn't go that way.
Ellis Amdur has a couple of books that address de escalation with people with mental illnesses I believe, they might be appropriate things to look at here.
