The Art of Self-Defence - 1941 Disney cartoon.

Walt Disney – via Goofy – gives his take on “The Art of Self-Defence” in this 1941 cartoon.

My favourite line – made in reference to bare-knuckle boxing – is, “Here, we see man engaged in a crude form of fisticuffs. But due to the utter lack of science, these men could only fight for 75 to 80 rounds” :-)

Enjoy!

All the best,

Iain

Hi Iain,

I see the misconception of self defense equals fighting is not a modern thing enlightened.

True, but I think you have to forgive that of a talking cartoon dog … Is Goofy a dog? ;-)

SHAW!

Yes Goofy is a dog... Mickey's dog.

I thought Pluto was Micky's dog?

They both are.  They just gave Goofy more smarts.

Either way, I'm sure my dog Skye could take him.

Skye is on the left.  He's scared off Coyotes to protect the herd.

Dasher is on the right, hes just fast, very, very fast.

A childhood mystery solved! :-)

I can’t for one second condone any form of dog fighting … but I’m sure you’re right :-)

Hmm, that's an interesting issue, dog fighting is illegal, yet we have a Disney cartoon with Goofy essentially prize fighting...

I personally don't condone it either, but when working with them on the farm, sometimes dog fights do happen, and that is what I was refering to.  Cause I'm sure Goofy is a trouble maker.
