On the 15th June I will be running an open session of "old style" Okinawan karate with influence from Fujian White Crane Kung Fu at my dojo in Halifax. I will be sharing the type of two person drills I practice to inform the kata of choice. These include 2 person exercises , kata application and pad drills. By the end of the session I hope the attendees will have an idea of how to fluidly apply kata (any kata) by understanding & utilising your opponents energy to produce a highly functional system for close quarter skirmishing for which I believe the kata were originally intended. The session will cost just £10 for four hours training. Payment in advance will secure your place. If anyone is interested please e-mail - markbonner1@hotmail.co.uk upon which I will give you my address for payment. Regards , Mark

I like the way Mark approaches kata and self-protection and this should be an interesting course! Well worth attending if you can.
Think I'll have to get a pass from her indoors for this one!
Hi all.
Just a quick message to say that there has been some reasonable interest in this session.
If those people who have added a comment on this thread expressing an interest are still hoping to attend could they please PM me on this forum or email me at markbonner1@hotmail.co.uk , so I can get an idea of numbers.
I do have focus pads available to borrow but anyone who does come along may prefer to use their own.
Regards
Mark
Hi all,
This session is virtually full. I'm awaiting on a confirmation from one interested party on this forum which will leave two available spaces if anyone is interested.
Regards
Mark
Attended this at the weekend and was impressed from the moment i walked in was made to feel at home and training was great some good stuff shown and alot of the views on the bunkai i share looking forward to any more events Mark puts on
thank you
Thanks Mark for a fantastic session on Sunday! The venue is ideal, the session was delivered in a very informal but informative way which suited the guys from our club perfectly. Some great food for thought with regards to Naihanchi application as well as other interesting ideas and concepts about karate and it's origins.
The session was exceptional value for money; £10.00 for 4 hours training. I would certainly encourage Mark to host more sessions in the future and recommend them to all karate-ka of any style etc.
Many thanks again!
Johnny Wilson - Rothwell Karate club.
Thanks Mike and Johnny for your kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you both (and the many new people who attended). I'm glad you enjoyed the session and took some stuff away of use. As you saw my approach is very straight forward, designed for actual use. I plan to do a session in October (date to be confirmed). The subject of the October session will be Jion. I will post up the date and time on this forum when I have it confirmed. It would be great to see you guys there. Thanks again Mark
