Masahiko Kimura Videos

Here are a couple of you-tube videos of Judo legend Masahiko Kimura. Kimura is regarded as one of the greatest judoka of all time and he also studied karate under Gichin Funakoshi (Shotokan) and So Nei Chu (Goju) - becoming an assistant instructor of the latter’s dojo - and he also had connections with karate greats Gogen Yamaguchi and Mas Oyama. Kimura’s bout with Hélio Gracie is why the reverse ude-garami is frequently called “The Kimura” in BJJ and MMA.

Mas Oyama once wrote, “As one of my Senpai, there was a judo master named Masahiko Kimura. In judo, simply there has never been a man as strong as this man was. He was such a master in the art of judo to the extent that is frequently said: ‘There has been no Kimura before Kimura. There will be no Kimura after Kimura.’”

I hope you find the clips interesting.

All the best,

Iain

Here's something I found a long time a go on the net.  This guy is right on the money.

The point that you need the “sport grappling” (i.e. basic solid skills) to make the gouging and biting work is a very valid point. There’s sometimes an over reliance on “the dirt” and comments like, “in a real fight I’d just bite” fail to take into account that you still need solid grappling skills to make that happen (and that biting is a means to an end and not so much of a fight finisher in itself). For self-protection purposes, we don’t need to the skills to out grapple a grappler, but we do need a solid set of skills relevant to the environment and that “dirt alone” won’t do it. The clip captures the relevance to the environment and the need for solid skills quiet nicely.

Couldn't agree with you more.  cool

P.S  I did some reasearch on the net about Carl Cestari.  He wasnt so crazy.   From what I read he had many students and was a great teacher and person.  He was very well loved and knew how to reach his students.
