Naihanchi’s Open Hand Position Used For Control

Hey everyone,

This is an application from Naihanchi that I use every time I spar. It’s dead simple, you grab and control tightly one arm (hikite) and press or feel with the open hand from the beginning of the form. It’s an excellent position for control and for setting up strikes. Here my students and I are drilling it with the elbow follow up. Hope you enjoy! Thanks

I'm fond of it, as well, and I always appreciate seeing folks working kakedameshi. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Noah! The live training I think is the most important parts of the application process that’s often overlooked. You’re article in Bugeisha is still one of the best resources people can seek out for an introduction to this practice.
