Tim Smith (of Kung-Fu Podcasts) has put out a great interview with Dr. Samantha May on the history of the language of the Okinawan People and Martial Arts:

It’s very interesting and looks at the varied reason why the language (Uchinaaguchi) is endangered and the attempts to preserve and promote it through the practise of martial arts.
There’s also a discussion on how some of the Japanese language that we use in western dojo is culturally out of date and no longer used in Japan (felt to be too “imperialistic”).
Well worth a listen!
All the best,
Iain
That's surprisingly timely--I just referred someone to Samantha's booklet on Uchinaaguchi in another thread here on the forum! I'll have to check this out
Thank you for the mention. Samantha is planning to return for a followup interview in 4-5 months.
Awesome!
All the best,
Iain
