A quick little pad drill that is part of my 5th kyu testing syllabus. From an open stance, throw an inside leg kick. Step back after the kick and finish with a hook punch. You should heel as though you are loading your weight on your supporting leg as you start your kick. Use the force of the pad into your leg to help step back. As you step back, your hips will naturally rotate. Use this rotation for the hook punch. There are a few different ways to deliver an inside leg kick. Sometimes I turn my hips over more and really commit to the kick. In this video, I am using less of a turn which allows me to keep at a safe distance. Pros and cons. Safety Tip. When holding the shield pad on your leg, make sure you keep you knee bent!
