Last month, we made a video about a wrist lock using the sai, as a viewer requested we look at restraining methods of saijutsu, and we said we would also be releasing another video with a shoulder lock using the sai. That video is now live, so I wanted to share it here in case anyone found the last saijutsu video interesting and wanted to see more. This is, essentially, a hiji-dori (elbow press) shoulder lock, using the sai as a lever. We had to use very static/basic attacker positions for safety, because doing this quickly is just asking to get stabbed or gouged by the sai, but there are plenty of other situations where this could be used. The same lock can also be done with other short weapons, such as hanbo, tonfa, and kama.
