Like my bruises on Facebook

Hi All,

Site regulars will be interested to know that a Facebook page has been set up around the “Ask me about your bruises” T-Shirts and the great cause they are raising funds for!

What you all need to do is get a T-Shirt, get your picture taken in it, and then get it up on the Facebook page! In the meantime, could all Facebook users be sure to give the page a “like” and spread the word on this great way for karateka to look cool and do a good thing! Thank you very much! I’ll now hand you over to Eric!

All the best,

Iain

PS Check me out! :-)

Message from Eric Parsons

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your “Ask Me About My Bruises” T-shirts. Thanks to all of you for ordering them and helping to support Felex.

Now, I have a quick favor to ask those of you who are on Facebook. We have set up a non-profit page for the Karate for Life Foundation. If you could go in and “Like” our page and possibly even promote it to your friends, it would be much appreciated. Felex will actually be posting regular updates on his training and living/working situations, so this would give you a chance to follow him and see how he is doing.

Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Karate-For-Life-Foundation/117092895032808?sk=wall

Also, for those who feel up to it, we’re asking everyone to take a picture of themselves wearing the shirt and post it to the page’s wall. The cooler the location, the better. And feel free to post more than once if you have more than one pic. Right now, I’ve posted a couple that were taken during a recent seminar taught by Nicholas Yang of YMAA, while Sarah has a couple from her first ever 10k. We need company, though, so post away.

Once again, thanks for all of your support.

And don’t forget to tell people about your bruises.

All the best,

Eric

Background by Eric Parsons

While serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda, I founded a martial arts group which Sarah (my wife) and I eventually incorporated into an anti-HIV/AIDS life skills training program. The top student in that group, Felex Forward, has continued to train in the martial arts and is also currently working as a primary school teacher in the country, under which capacity he is trying to continue the joint life skills/martial arts program. However, last month, Felex was told by the local government that they were going to demolish his house because the town had recently been promoted to a district capital and they wanted to "beautify" the neighborhood. As such, he is in dire need of assistance.

To help out, we are selling our popular "Ask me about my bruises" shirts as a fundraiser. With the help of a talented artist, we've came up with a very cool design, but you don't need to take my word for it. Check it out for yourself! Shirts are $20 for US orders and $23 for international orders, postage included, and can be paid either via check or through Paypal.  If you're interested in purchasing a shirt and helping Felex out, just contact me at askmeaboutmybruises@gmail.com

Thanks in advance!

Eric
