Hi Lionel

Thanks for sharing those ideas, there's some good stuff there I'm teaching a seminar on Bassai Dai /Passai later this year. I'll try and record the applications for the opening sequence that I'll be teaching at the seminar when I'm next in the dojo. It will be fun to compare.

Regards Mark

Hi Mark. Yes, if you've got time to film the opening sequence to would be great to compare.

All the best,

Lionel

Welcome Lionel! Thanks for sharing the video with us. Coincidentally, I was teaching Bassai-Dai applications this weekend and the “limb clear, forearm smash to neck” was the one we did for the second movement; just as you also show. Great minds think alike and all that :-)

The “stance” makes clear where the bodyweight need to go for the motion. So any good application needs to take that into account. I also like how you make use of the opening “salutation” too. Like you, I also believe that all motions have combative function. Good stuff!

A good video with some good applications! Thanks so much for joining us and sharing your knowledge.

All the best,

Iain

I assure you, I wasn't there :-) But in the practical world, the world of Bunkai is small when thinking the same way.

Thanks! I've been a long time guy who was thinking that was just an preparation, kinda mystical, but with time, training and research, we can find a pratical application for every move on kata.

All the best,

Lionel

LOL. I can confirm that :-)

Very true. When you have a group of people looking at the same things, in similar ways, to achieve the same outcome, then you should get a lot of common collusions. It’s reassuring when we do as well! If two or more people independently reach the same conclusion then it adds weight to that conclusion. So thank you for the confirmation :-)

All the best,

Iain
