Hello, everyone,
Lots of people know Sensei Richard Poage through Waza Wednesday. This is the last episode we were able to film before he had a seizure and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Information on the GoFundMe page to raise money for his medical costs is included in the video. Many thanks to Iain Abernethy for making the video, and supporting us through this!
Please support this! Richard is one of our own and he needs our support! https://www.gofundme.com/richard-poages-brain-surgery
My best whishes to Richard for a speedy recovery.
Supporting via the gofundme system is easy. Try it!
I like Iain's application and the accompanying pad drill.
My personal take on the sequence starts with the same ridge hand to the back of the head and then grabbing the back of the neck.
But then my left hand shoots up with the ridge hand to the front of the neck or lower arm into the face. Following through into the palm of my right hand (like Empi into palm in Heian/Pinan Yondan).
With the next move (Sukui-Uke) I would grab the head with both hands and twist it counter-clockwise and down to takedown the opponent. The last move (double downward punches) then slams the head into the ground.
(I hope the description is good enough. I won't be able to video it at the moment.)
All the best,
Marc
I’m so very sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. Richard passed away earlier today. Richard and the selfless contribution he made to our community will be sorely missed. Thanks to everyone who contributed to medical costs. This is obviously a very raw and painful time for this family and your kindness is sure to help. The kind words, thoughts, and contributions show how respected and well thought of he is. A very sad loss.
