Funakoshi on keeping motivated

Funakoshi on keeping motivated and making progress in karate:

“The best way to progress in karate is to keep a schedule of regular practise each day, to continue even if you fall behind your peers (because you will catch up with them easily enough with time anyway), set high goals, and practise steadily without rushing or becoming impatient. I order to maintain one’s enthusiasm for karate you should watch the skilled kata of others, listen to all the varying opinions on karate, read books, attend karate events as often as possible, and make use of training equipment. If the student returns again and again to ponder on karate, they will maintain their enthusiasm.” – Gichin Funakoshi, Karate-Do Kyohan
