Naihanchi / Tekki Nidan Bunkai (Playing with Bunkai)

A quick overview of Naihanchi / Tekki Nidan bunkai from André Pedersen, Kenneth Attila Bende, Hedda Hagen Castle and Dag Philip Lango Thorbjørnsen!

Brilliant ... brutal ... nice.

Your demonstration not only shows a realistic, say relevant, bunkai but also reflects the dense (technical) character of Naihanchi kata. I really like it.

Thanks for that share! Copied the link for my collection of naihanchi resources. Great material for sure.

Best,

Cool stuff. Not sure about the application for the opening movement though. I have been thinking of this as getting double under hooks as defense against a take down attempt or a body lock. There is a similar movement in Hangetsu that is followed up by pushing slowly at throat level with a single nuckles fist (can't remember the proper name) which I interpret as pushing the nuckles into the throat to break the grip. I think it might appear elsewhere but I could be wrong. It would be a good thing to record as a defense against a common attack. What do you think?

Awesome! Effective and very close to the kata.

My preferred application is very similar. I drive the inside of the knuckle into the back of the jawbone, but other than that, it is the same. I some versions, there is a knee strike immediately following that motion. The gouge tends to raise the head and bring the groin forward for the knee. That, in turn, takes the hips back / head forward and that fits well with the following forearm strike to the side.

All the best,

Iain

I also use the first moves to press into kyusho points and the smash my arm into the enemy's neck. So same principle, but I do it from a bearhug (front/back/under arm/over arm, works for all of those).

Take care,

Marc

Lots of GREAT material here. I haven't delved into the Naihanchi/Tekki kata yet, but I'm stock-piling resources. LOL. Thanks so much to everyone sharing their analyses and applications!
